Indigenous Music Camp Call Out

Bleach* Festival presents BY THE BEACH a new initiative of Bleached Arts supported by Arts Queensland

By the Beach is a 5-day music residency program, on the Gold Coast for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians from Queensland, Gold Coast and surrounding regions.

The residency will include workshops, composition, songwriting, mentorship, industry presentations and skills development under the guidance of the lead creative team.

By the Beach is an opportunity for emerging and established Indigenous musicians to collaborate with an extraordinary team of artists including; – Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes The Break, ACO, MONA FOMA curator),  – Fred Leone (Black Arm Band, Impossible Odds, Clancestry),  – Kyle Slabb (Director of Jaali Inc) – Veronique Serret (Strings)  – Sam Pankhurst (Bass) – Greg Sheehan (Percussion).

An exciting element of the residency involves working towards a large-scale music production, commissioned by Bleach* Festival, which will be part of the Festival 2018 Commonwealth Games Cultural Program.

Successful participants will form part of an ensemble who will perform alongside musicians of national and international acclaim in this world premiere project.

We are looking for a diverse group of musicians from a range of ages with a variety of skills, musical influences and instrumentation, who are inspired by genuine and authentic collaboration and are ready for a complete immersive experience.

The residency aims to offer opportunities to develop artistically, personally and culturally in a supported, positive and engaging environment as well as deeply cultivate talent and achieve artistic excellence through collaboration.  By the Beach will include special occasions to be immersed in the Southern Gold Coast’s beautiful beaches and hinterland locations and engage in cultural sharing with the local community.
